If both stick to their schedules, Minecraft Movie 2 will drop on the exact same day as The Simpsons Movie 2.
The original Minecraft movie, released in April 2025, raked in over $950 million worldwide, landing it at No. 2 on the all-time highest-grossing video game movies list and No. 69 among all films ever. By late April, it had already surpassed $816 million globally. Warner Bros.'s top bosses had already indicated that a sequel was definitely coming shortly after the first movie's April release.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the original director, Jared Hess, will return to direct and co-write the screenplay. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether the main cast from the first film, which included Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, and Sebastian Hansen, will be returning for the sequel.
